Glen Wilkinson, DVM
Dr. Wilkinson knew at an early age that he wanted to be a veterinarian. It all started when he was working cattle with his dad, Ed Wilkinson, and young Glen was able to give his first of many shots. The seed that was planted that day grew and now Wilkinson Veterinary Clinic sees thousands of animals annually.
Glen is originally from Falfurrias and started vet school in 1979 at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. The same week after graduated, Dr. Wilkinson and his family moved to Premont, Texas and started Wilkinson Veterinary Clinic. Working out of his garage with his truck and minimal supplies, Dr. Wilkinson worked many long hours by himself to support his family. Debbie assisted him with a much of the paperwork and accounting. After about two and a half years, in 1985, Dr. Wilkinson built the building where Wilkinson Veterinary Clinic now operates and continues to operate as it has for over 35 years.
Dr. Wilkinson is one of the 2 founders of Halo Flight. For over 30 years, Halo flight has been saving lives all over South Texas.
He was on the school board of Premont Independent School district for 9 years. In that time, he was able to contribute to how the school was run and do his best to make it a better place.
Dr. Wilkinson prides himself in consistently being one of the first to use innovative technology in South Texas. He strives to be at the forefront of the newest technological developments to provide his clients and patients with me highest quality service.
Samuel Wilkinson, DVM
Dr. Sam is a South Texas native. His passion is innovation in veterinary medicine. He has worked with more than 25 veterinary clinics from New Jersey to Vancouver, WA and all the way down to South Texas. During that time, he worked with the largest and smallest of clinics learning how to address the unique needs of each. Dr. Sam has 15+ years of experience in veterinary medicine and has grown up with it all of his life. Much of his experience is working with the most common domestic animals: horses, cattle, dogs, cats, sheep, and goats. He is also very experienced working with large exotic animals such as African game and other exotic hoof stock. His special interests include dermatology, internal medicine, and wildlife/exotic hoof stock medicine. Immobilizing, working with, and treating all sorts of large hoof stock is one of his favorite types of practice. Dr Sam is one of the hand full of veterinarians that is skilled and licensed to handle the ultra-potent opiates necessary to capture, handle, and immobilize many megavertibrates such as giraffe, rhinoceros, and elephants. He enjoys flying all over Texas to help capture, treat, and manage large exotics. He also employs the use of thermal drone technology to assist with his captures and other exotic work.
He has spent considerable time developing skills outside veterinary medicine by working with a law firm, a private lender, and startup accelerator. Dr. Sam is a private pilot and commercial drone pilot.
He loves good ideas, inspiration, ingenuity, honesty, loyalty, and creativity. He looks for ideas and people that inspire him to be a better person. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Sam enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing guitar, flying, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. Dr. Sam also enjoys traveling and learning languages and different cultures. He is fluent in Italian and is conversational in Spanish.
Jodi Smith, DVM
Dr. Jodi Smith hails from the great state of South Dakota, but don’t worry she got to Texas as soon as she could because she hates the cold. Ice should be in your drink, not on your car. Born and raised on a hunting and fishing resort, she has a deep love for the outdoors.
Dr. Smith explored many career options before finding her dream path. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Smith loves working with horses. Medicine and surgery are her strengths. Recently, Dr. Smith has been exploring alternative medical therapies and is a certified veterinary chiropractor.
Dr. Smith enjoys hiking, fishing, hunting, has 2 massive German Shepherds that look like they would eat you, but are secretly very sweet and a sandy beach is her second home.
Mikayla Heckmann, DVM
Dr. Mikayla Heckmann was born in Nebraska, but lived in Central Texas most of her life. She attended Texas A&M University and received a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science and a minor in Business Administration. She then continued her veterinary education at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. She is excited to now make Alice her new home. Dr. Heckmann has a passion for general surgery and cardiology, but enjoys treating all animals, large and small. She has a special interest in complex cases and surgery.
Dr. Heckmann has known she wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 7 years old. She even had a play vet clinic when she was little, complete with stuffed animal patients!
Dr. Heckmann’s hobbies include playing volleyball, hiking, and watching football.
